On the 24th of November 1910 the Beebe Balloon Company inflated a hot air balloon at Pukekura Park in front of thousands of spectators.
Mr Sebphe (the "astronaut") ascended to a height of 4400 feet and then lept from the basket, parachuting to the ground.
Admission was free as long as adults presented an empty 1lb packet of Suratura "D" Tea. Children were free with a 1/2lb packet.
